The bipartisan push to restrict internet freedom is gaining momentum. On Wednesday, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee voted on five bills related to online safety and AI, including the Shielding Children’s Retinas from Egregious Exposure on the Net (SCREEN) Act and Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), which free speech advocates have warned would threaten online privacy and freedom. The SCREEN Act, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R–Utah), would require pornography websites to block minors using age verification.
