Israel’s Channel 12 attacked for second time, journalists receive death threat 

Nazareth, Israel, July 29, 2026 —The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the latest attack on the headquarters of Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 News, where a masked individual smashed the building’s glass entrance doors and left a handwritten note containing a death threat over its coverage of the alleged abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility. 

Released surveillance footage of the attack, which occurred overnight between Monday and Tuesday in Tel Aviv, shows a masked individual smashing the entrance before fleeing. According to reports, a handwritten note left at the scene demanded Channel 12 apologize for its reporting on Sde Teiman and warned that the attacks would continue until it did so, threatening “someone will die in the end.”

The incident marks the second attack on the broadcaster’s offices in less than a month, with a masked individual throwing two concrete bricks through the building’s glass entrance before fleeing in early July.  

Israeli police said they have opened an investigation, but have not announced any arrests in connection with either attack.

“This second attack on Channel 12 in less than a month, coupled with an explicit death threat to its journalists, represents a dangerous escalation of intimidation against the Israeli press that can’t be dismissed as an act of vandalism,” said CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah. “Israeli authorities must leave no doubt that those who threaten or attack journalists will face swift justice, and must take decisive action to protect journalists, and safeguard their ability to report freely without fear.”   

In a statement shared with CPJ, a Channel 12 spokesperson said: “This is a real warning sign. The blood of Channel 12 News journalists is not fair game… We will not back down, even in the face of legislation, incitement, and violence.”

Israeli Police Commissioner Danny Levy said that they are viewing the matter with the utmost seriousness and that he will hold an urgent meeting to discuss the issue. He added that he had instructed the Tel Aviv District Commander to use all operational and investigative means available to the police to identify the perpetrator and arrest him.

CPJ has reached out to Israeli police for comment on the attack by messaging app but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
