Nazareth, Israel, July 8, 2026—The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Israeli authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into separate attacks targeting the offices of the Israeli daily Haaretz and broadcaster Channel 12 in Tel Aviv, and to ensure the safety of journalists and media workers.

On Tuesday night, a masked person shattered the glass entrance door of Haaretz’s headquarters after throwing two concrete blocks at the building before fleeing the scene. The newspaper filed a police complaint and said it would strengthen security measures at its offices to protect staff.

The attack came just days after a similar incident at the Tel Aviv studios of Channel 12, where a masked individual smashed the glass entrance door with a stone on Sunday.

“These attacks are deeply troubling and appear to be intended to intimidate journalists and media organizations,” said CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah. “Israeli authorities must identify those responsible, hold them to account, and ensure that members of the press can carry out their work without fear of violence or intimidation.”

Haaretz Editor-in-Chief Aluf Benn described the attack as “a direct attempt to intimidate journalists and media workers.” He told CPJ that the newspaper “will not retreat from its professional and public role in practicing free and independent journalism and will not succumb to attempts at intimidation and silencing through violence.”
