Berlin, December 16, 2025—The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on North Macedonian authorities to hold accountable a man who violently intruded upon the newsroom of the Infomax news website in Skopje during a live broadcast, and take concrete steps to ensure the safety of journalists and newsrooms across the country.

Police have arrested the man and prosecutors have begun a criminal proceeding against him.

“CPJ welcomes the swift police action in arresting the man who threatened the Infomax journalists and staff in Skopje,” said Attila Mong, CPJ’s Europe representative. “Due process resulting in accountability and justice will ensure members of the press feel safe and protected in North Macedonia.”

On December 10, 2025, the man attempted to enter the Infomax newsroom by banging on a locked, code-secured door. After failing to gain access, he forcibly entered the building’s courtyard and broke down the door. As he tried to enter the studio, he accused journalists Aleksandar Mitovski and Miloš Miloševski, staff, and guests of the live broadcast of insulting Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and threatened them with physical harm and death before being escorted outside. The attack forced Infomax to halt its live broadcast.

CPJ emailed questions to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which oversees police and the public prosecutor’s office in Skopje, but received no response.
