The Committee to Protect Journalists joined 18 human rights and press freedom organizations in urging Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to immediately release blogger Abduljalil Al-Singace, who has completed 15 years of arbitrary imprisonment for his role in the pro-democracy movement.
Since July 2021, Al-Singace, 64, has been held in medical facilities, and is currently at Muharraq Specialised Health Care Centre. He began a hunger strike to protest the confiscation of his manuscripts and academic research, surviving mainly on liquids and supplements, and has occasionally refused food entirely to protest the denial of medication and specialized treatment. In November 2025, the UN Committee against Torture expressed serious concerns over his detention and urged Bahrain to release him.
